 My name is Douglas Hoyes. I’m a chartered accountant and a licensed trustee in bankruptcy.

I started my career with a large accounting firm in the Toronto area. After working for that firm for 10 years I wanted to move to a community where I wouldn’t have to spend an hour in my car to drive one kilometer, so in 1997 I moved to Cambridge to take a job with another big accounting firm.
The move to Cambridge was great, but working for a big accounting firm helping big corporations was not what I really wanted to do, so in 1999 I teamed up with Ted Michalos and we started Hoyes, Michalos & Associates Inc. Our Cambridge office opened in 1999, and since then we have grown to be one of the largest personal insolvency firms in Cambridge, and throughout Ontario.

In my Cambridge, Ontario bankruptcy office you get the best of both worlds. You get the “big city” expertise of someone who trained in the Toronto area, but you get the “small town” service you expect from someone in your community.

In fact, my personal bankruptcy expertise gets put to good use, not only here in Cambridge, but also in places like Ottawa, where on February 7, 2008 I provided expert testimony before the Senate Standing Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce.

The Senate was reviewing proposed changes to bankruptcy rules in Canada, and along with Hoyes, Michalos & Associates Inc. co-founder Ted Michalos I was called to provide my thoughts on the new rules.

I was able to bring the experience gained from meeting with literally hundreds of Cambridge residents to Ottawa, and I know the Senators appreciated hearing the perspectives of “real people” in financial trouble.

I focus on providing personal service, so in Cambridge you won’t be meeting with a junior clerk. You will be meeting with me, and also probably with Howard Hayes, a member of my Cambridge bankruptcy team with many years of experience.
